A collaboration across the worlds of visual art and jazz.

“Harold Anderson is an American Kiwi, an outstanding composer and jazz bassist who was taught by John Coltrane’s bass and is an Otago University Mozart Fellow. In 2015 he saw Ewan McDougall’s Wallace Awards Finalist The Way To Paradise and was inspired to read the big oil painting as a jazz/classical score.

“The brilliant composition will be played by Mike Nock, Harold Anderson and other elite jazz musicians over three wonderful concerts, including members of the Auckland Chamber Orchestra and Dunedin Symphony Orchestra.

10th October – The Dunedin Public Art Gallery, Dunedin, 6pm
16th October – Grand Hall in Parliament, Wellington, 6pm
21st October – The Pah Homestead, Auckland, 6.30pm

“Ewan’s vibrant painting will be exhibited beside the combo of 12 musicians in each venue.

“We need to fund Mike Nock’s travel from Australia to NZ, and all the musicians travel to and from each city, plus their accommodation for this concert series to come to fruition. We know from listening to rehearsals that the music is brilliant, and we want you to enjoy it too, as well as to see the painting as it morphs into music!

“We hope you will join us on The Way to Paradise!”
